Writing by Speaking with AI
Course content. What if you could use voice dictation for quickly producing clean, polished text that does not sound as if it had been spoken in a two-minute free-thinking rant? In this course, you will learn the skill of writing with your voice in the age of AI, using a combination of an AI-powered dictation tool and an AI chat interface. This means learning how to best prompt AI with your voice, but also how to use, build and modify AI systems tailored to your specific ways of working, so that what you dictate leads to the desired outcomes. I will bring a starting system I designed for you to use and personalise.
Goals. You learn to:
- build, maintain and improve your own personalised AI system that enables writing by voice;
- draft a new text by speaking, from ideating aloud to a first version;
- review and revise an existing text by voice;
- give an AI the kind of spoken input that gets the best out of it, for writing or for any other task;
- judge, for a given task, whether speaking or typing serves it better;
- figure out where voice dictation fits in your own specific writing workflow.
Format. Every course can take different shapes: in person, online or both, as one intensive block or spread over several weeks, shorter or longer. Length, format and all practical details are open: we agree them together, and I adapt the course to what your institution needs.
