AI Starter Kit for Researchers
How to set up your own personalized AI system and get more consistent results right away.
Course content. You sense that AI could help with your work. But when you try, you often end up frustrated: it makes you repeat the same instructions, writes text that does not sound like you, gets stuck on the more complex tasks, rushes to solutions when you want careful thinking or tries to please you when you need honest critique.
This class is an introduction, designed to get you as fast as possible over the first hurdles of using AI for advanced knowledge work. It focuses on giving you just the right skills and technical setup, so you get more consistent results right away. You receive a system that I built specifically for that, and learn to use it and customize it to your needs. After the very first session, you use it on real work tasks. You start thinking as an AI system builder, rather than as a chatbot user. And if you want more in-depth knowledge, for most topics overviewed in this class, I offer longer dedicated courses.
Goals. You learn to:
- set up and improve a personalized AI system for your research;
- get better at giving an AI the right context a task needs;
- start using the basics of AI system design, such as system prompts, meta-prompting, and iterative, practice-oriented design;
- work in dedicated projects for thinking and ideation, academic writing and reviewing from specific perspectives;
- recognise the questions of research integrity and data safety your use of AI raises.
Format. Every course can take different shapes: in person, online or both, as one intensive block or spread over several weeks, shorter or longer. Length, format and all practical details are open: we agree them together, and I adapt the course to what your institution needs.
